Dave's Story
Dave spent 10 years in Indianapolis successfully working in the fast paced world of investment brokerage. He moved to Michigan in 1990 to pursue a less frenetic lifestyle and to marry his beautiful wife Nancy, who is a native of Benton Harbor. Since moving to Michigan Dave has spent 30 years maintaining a hearing healthcare practice, which he sold in 2021.
It has always been Dave’s goal, upon retirement, to serve on the local school board and that opportunity is now presenting itself. While this will be Dave’s first foray into elected office he has spent the last 40 years as an avid student of politics and culture, observing through real world experience what works and what doesn’t. Dave plans on bringing every bit of that experience to bear to address the issues facing today’s students and their parents.
Dave feels that the schools have gotten away from their core responsibility of educating students to become contributing, successful members of society, with too much emphasis on sociological theorems that often do more harm than good. According to U.S. News & World Report, Michigan currently ranks 38th out of 50 in how well we educate our students. With numbers like that he thinks that any pursuit of questionable sociological concepts is a poor allocation of resources.
Parents, by natural right and Michigan law MCL 380.10 should play an integral role “to determine and direct the care, teaching and education of their children”. As anyone who has attended a school board meeting lately can tell you, this is seldom put into effect. All too often parents are marginalized, sidelined, disrespected and forced to struggle to get their 3 minutes (and not one second more) to address their issues with the board. The relationship has become openly adversarial instead of cooperative. Dave intends to address this by proactively reaching out to the parents and seeking their input across a whole range of subjects.
Dave is endorsed by We The Parents, The Great Lakes Education Project, former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley and just about every Coloma citizen he has talked to while introducing himself around the school district.
Between now and election day, Dave will be available to meet you and answer your questions at the Hub restaurant in Coloma , mornings between 9:00 and 10:00. Feel free to drop by for coffee and conversation.
He thanks you for your support
